Overview

SOS is a commonly used term, which indicates an emergency or distress. The term originated from Morse Code, which was a type of communication used in the 1800’s by military and defense organizations.

This distress signal was first adopted in 1905 by the German government.

Environmental Perspective

Many environmentalists and climate change activists have adopted the term SOS to spread word of the environmental emergency at hand. This term is being used to raise awareness about the global issues at hand in regards to global warming, climate change, greenhouse gases (GHGs), and various other elements that are negatively affecting the world that we live in.

Companies such as Supreme Master TV have used the term SOS in their climate change public service announcements in an effort to raise awareness.
