Overview
A hybrid electric vehicle refers to a vehicle that is powered by an engine that runs from two different power sources, such as the Toyota Prius, which runs on an internal combustion engine (gasoline) and an electric propulsion system. Hybrid electric vehicle's achieve better fuel economy than a conventional vehicle, and also produce less emissions making them better for the environment. A Hybrid electric vehicle can also run on electric power that does not need a battery pack, such as solar or flywheel technology.
Environmental Information
While there is much controversy over the environmental benefits of the life-cycle of hybrid vehicles versus non-hybrid vehicles, running these vehicles in comparison to conventional vehicles is said to be more eco-efficient due to the reduce gas consumption. Additionally, the hybrid technology in most vehicles enables them to travel on purely electric power up to a certain speed, at which the gasoline powers the vehicle thereafter.
